Happy 4th on the 5th!!

This will not be a long post, as I have to leave for practice in exactly 10 min...and still need to get everything gathered to go...but wanted to wish everyone in SR_land a great big happy 4th of July...if one day late :)  I hope whether you with family, friends, or drumming away at a show, you had a great day.  It was very humid for our shows in STL yesterday, but we had a great time anyhow...though we had to stop about 5 min early for an approaching storm...one of those this summer was enough for me!!

I did want to share in this blog about Seth from the show yesterday afternoon...we had an audience of LOTS of neighborhood kids from the park we were playing in...and they were having a great time guest drumming...one song after another...but during one song, we had Seth...an adult who had some obvious things going on...maybe Tourette's syndrome, maybe slightly mentally challenged...it was not clear exactly what it might have been...but the result of his Take A Chance was incredible...as he yelled out at the audience at the end of the song that...

"This was my first time up here playing a drum, and although I was scared to death, I felt like George Washington marching to victory to the sound of drums many years ago...and I feel GREAT!"

Once again, we never know who we might affect, what change might happen, what joy might be imparted, or what the result of us standing and sweating in the heat might cause...BUT...we must remember that not only must we do it for SR...but more importantly to this particular holiday, we must give thanks to God for living in a country where we are free to dream...and succeed...and live in freedom...and we must make sure we work to keep our country this way...because it is only with freedom that we are able to take our lives in whatever direction we want them to go.

See you all soon...MANY MANY July shows...so get out there and drum!!

And, just think...AUGUST MEGA EVENT IN ONE MONTH!  GET SIGNED UP :)

  1. I had an amazing 4th of July! I was camping with my family and met a really good friend there and we all watched the fireworks. the only bad thing was that the fireworks were just backyard fireworks and were not very good at all, but thats okay, i still had a blast. I even got a tan! And with me cause i normally burn really bad, thats good haha (:

  2. Happy fifth!

That's a great story. Yesterday I brought my best friend to my show, because I wanted her to hear our message and maybe experience guest drumming. A little background on her: She is very smart and talented, but she has trouble with many of her friends and family members. She lives with her single, unemployed father who is usually absent from her life. She struggled with cutting, though I am happy to say she has overcome it. I hope that hearing us yesterday made some impact on her. Thank you, Steve, for creating such a powerful thing that does so much good for so many people.

On a lighter note, I am signed up and ready to go to Saint Louis!

  3. Steve, Steve, Steve - no.

(This is going back to your very last post.) Blond is one of the few english words that distinguishes between the masculine and feminine. I'm blonde. You dyed your hair blond.

Blame the French. No wait, I'm partly French. Don't blame us.

  4. Also a late Happy 4th of July to everyone. Haven't been on this for awhile but just wanted to applaud Steve's words and what SR stands for-if we can just help ONE person from each show that is done and they go out and help someone and on and on-how that ripple effect could affect so many people! I am so proud to be associated with SR and the good that comes from this group.

  5. Well it has been interesting to say the least. Being laid off I was able to do some shows in SW Iowa which started off the 10 day spree of Alex Schuck and I being together (Be AFRAID!!!) We then went down to Nashville for mission week. It was AWSOME!!!! I can't wait to go back next year. Friday night we stayed in MO with the Privitt family and went to bed around 2 or 2:30 and were on the road by 4 so we could be at the 4th of July show (on the 3rd) in Iowa Falls. Kyle realized they forgot about my birthday that day right as I put away the mic (oh darn! :O) The 4th brought the Northwood celebration. We ended up not playing in the parade because of a heavy downpour but had a chance to set up and take our time during the parade for the show in the sheltere house. I got to go visit a classmate I haven't seen all summer and sit on her dock for fireworks it was great, until we walked to the carnival and I realized I had lost my wallet somewhere between Northwood, home, and Clear Lake. Today brought the show and parade in Clear Lake. A couple of us were not very happy campers during set up but when we started playing you couldn't tell. The Schuck family (minus Alex) helped me retrace my steps of the night before to look for the wallet but it is still mia (scary!) Thanks Renee!!! I have to admit I was one of the ones not a happy camper this morning or afternoon, but I just went and looked at all the pics from Nashville again and it made my day a little better.

Wow that's a lot. Sorry I had a lot on my mind and had to share.

  6. I didn't know that, Jovanna! I learned something today!

Kelli- Good luck finding your wallet.

Also, a few kids from my site and Wisconsin had a missions trip in north Minneapolis. It was amazing, and I got closer to some of my SR family. I've also begun looking for ways to serve the poor in the Twin Cities. I never realized how great it feels to serve my own community.

  8. Kelli-Sorry you and someone else were not happy campers yesterday-you have been extremely busy the past 10 days. Enjoyed watching the show and eating lunch with you and your mom-sure made my day better and even Alex's hand show (ha ha) was entertaining. Take care and am glad to be your friend-am here if you ever need anything.

  10. Story gave me goosebumps! :)

I had a pretty good weekend. My dad came home for the holiday weekend, and on Saturday I helped step up the float for the Forth of July parade, then went home, got ready to go to my uncles party.. That was fun, I love seeing everyone together! Then on Sunday Went to the parade, played in it, had a blast, then went home and packed for Georgia. Jen(sister),Brittany(friend),mom, and I went down with my dad. We left yesterday. It was fun. 15 hour drive!!! I loved it! If I could, I would travel everyday. We finally got to his place at 5am. Everyone was sleeping except me and my mom, who was driving. but yeah.. thats all that happened so far. :) I will hopefully get to see Amanda while I am down here for 10 day. :)

didnt mean to delete that... >_< this computer hates me...but oh well :)

That is what it's all about ... the joy we give to others and one another. Can't wait to meet all of you. We still have room for folks to stay and need more drummers to come to St Louis. We haven't met our goal yet but we are getting there. KEEP SIGNING UP!! - see you all soon - Annette - facebook me too.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Need more drummers to make it to our goal of 100. There's still time to sign-up. I'm guessing most is staying near Troy IL or Collinsville. They are very close. Warren folks are staying with the previous coordinator in Ferguson Mo, which is also near our practice site. Every day is another detail or another email to put out there. I am so excited to meet all of you. We've only been around since Oct 2005 and have only 4 orig members left and have grown to 14 this year from 7 - yaay. See you soon.

    ReplyDelete
  29. *gasp* Another long lost blog member returns!! WIN!

    Hey, Colleen! ;)
Summer's been good, but kind of slow. Some days I can't wait for August 20th, which is when I move into the dorms. (First year of college, WOOT WOOT!) And other days, I'm like... hmm... I wish it was still the beginning of July. I've been entirely unsuccessful in my job search, which is such a bummer. But hey. No one wants to hire someone they know will only be around for three months. So I've been using my summer to WRITE!! OH MAN, does it feel good to sit down and seriously get going on this project!! I've learned that I'm very fussy about it, though... which is kind of good in a bad way or bad in a good way... I can't make up my mind.

    How's your summer?

All: Colleen's right, guys. I think it's time to take matters into our own hands at this point. We need to start up our own SR blog that will move a whole lot quicker. I know not everyone has access to a computer every day, but between us regulars, I bet we could put something together and have a new post for people to comment on just about every day. We could create a blog account and give three or four or five of us the password and ability to put up new posts.

    Waddaya think?

    ReplyDelete
  30. NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
I noticed a gramatical error in my above post! AHHHHH! The end of the world is COMING!!

Please discount "I wish it was still the beginning of July."
    Ah, what garbage!
It should be "I wish it were still the beginning of July."

    ReplyDelete
  31. Jovanna- i am sorry to hear about your job searching not going well....but i am happy to hear you are having fun (: my summer is good so far, i have cheer leading then i came home and do nothing, haha but its been good seeing my friends and stuff (:

and yes we should do that it would be awesome (:

    ReplyDelete
  32. I agree very much!

My summer has been interesting... not sure if it's good or bad...Well I guess good... I had a blast playing in the 4th of July Parade, then the next day leaving to go to Georgia with my mom, dad, sister, and my friend Brittany. The funnest thing I did down their was spend four and a half hours with Amanda! :D I love her. I was sooooooooooo excited to be able to see her again. Made me happy. Then, we left on the 16th at like 7pm...we had a 15 hour drive to do. I had fun though. I love sitting in the car for hours just driving and seeing what out there. Love it! Sunsets are very beautiful in Georiga I must say... BUT they have REALLY tall trees so its inpossible to get picture..but I got a few, so I was happy. :D Oh! on the 17th there was a show in Cleveland with the Toledo site! I got to go to that! I was sooo excited! I was kind of tired though.. I only had 3 hours of sleep, but when I started druming with the Toledo site I was pumped! I was sad that no one else from Warren could come>_< but we all got to go Hiking last Tuesday, so I was happy! AND I ONLY FELL ONCE!!!!! :D Woot! But yeah.. Other then that its been okish. Boring at times but I deal. :)

  36. random quote...but I like it :)

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
