Well, I am making my 2nd round of many sites who have now been working on the beginning, first verse, choruses, 2nd verse (including gallop and stick trick) and even the zig zag part at the end, and all of this seems to coming together VERY well. Last night in Rochester, MN we had the zig zag going so well that all parents were sitting there with mouths open in shock, surprise, and awe of what it looks like! And, that is with wooden sticks NOT with the lighted blue sticks (YET!)...I am proud of all the never give up, whatever it takes, believe in yourself, that you are all putting into the song to make it an epic SR addition...the hardest thing we have ever undertaken drumwise. YAY!
I have narrowed down the 2 remaining sections...and I think the uber snake as I want to call that part is about ready to be taught...and it too shall be HARD...my question in this blog is on a scale of 1 to 10...how hard do you all want it to be :) The song is already difficult...and my 3 ideas seem to fall in a 1 (easy), 5 (medium), and 10 (hard) set of ways to do uber snake...so Whataya Want From Me for that section (HA, a little song humor there).
Since we have not had a poll up for awhile, I will make that a poll question for you to vote on. In the meantime...here we are...almost done with June already, summer shows going fast and furious (and HOT), all going well...many new friends meant out there...MANY new drummers signing up from the last few that I led at least...and MANY more shows still coming...so in between your camps, summer jobs, summer sports, and summer relaxing...get out there...and drum up a storm...and change a life...everyday!
Also...the signups (or at least confirmation to me at practice) for folks coming to STL has grown this past few days...which is good! I know it is hard to fit this in between all else we are doing this summer...but remember the real goal of the SR Sizzlin' Summer Drummer Bash is to get you ALL together again...and truly bond...and become better friends...and simply have a great weekend...so work on Whatever It Takes to get there!
If you have not seen the awesome artwork for the special t shirt for this event, I have posted it here...as best as I could in the blog. See you all soon at something SR-ish :) :)
I think you should go for the crisscrossing idea we talked about last night in Rochester! It would be rather tough, but would look SO COOL when we do it all together!!!! I'm rather impressed with how well we did at practice last night as well! :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. That design is amazing! I love it!
ReplyDeleteTHAT DESIGN IS AMAZING OMG!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could come to the Sizzlin' Summer Drummer Bash but I don't think I'm going to make it. If we make shirts though i totally want one!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI would actually want to see all the variations you have in mind for the snake part before I said definately which I would vote for. But, seeing as the rest of the song sounds pretty difficult, I've voted medium.
ReplyDeleteBy the by, I love the final name choice. Sizzlin' Summer Drummer Bash. Real catchy. :D
ReplyDeleteFirst off LOVE the Design. That is awesome!
ReplyDeleteWith how difficult... I like medium but I like hard too.. I think. This so is crazy and when you start playing it, it is easyish then it keeps getting harder and harder and like that. I think if you made it hard it would be soo cool! :D but either way it would look awesome. So I guess I am for the hard. ^-^
alright forst that design is extremely sweet!!!!! (:
ReplyDeleteand the challenge for how hard you want the snake to be...i think that it should be hard to make us all never give up, take a chance, and believe in ourselves to make it happen. but seeing as i just finally learned the song a week and a half ago...i am going to go for a happy in between hard and medium...so 7 (: haha
If I Had You is by far my favorite! I really don't think the song is TOO hard but I will have to say 7 :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I LOVE the shirt design!!
As far as the shirt goes, I love the design itself; however, I don't like the fact that only TROY is shown as the Illinois connection. We are doing missions in many cities, practicing in another, and doing the show only in Troy. Is there another option?
ReplyDeleteWell, to be fair, we wouldn't want it getting too cluttered. All sites must have a wide sphere of influence. It would be difficult listing all cities in that limited space.
ReplyDeleteengteachr, I would have to agree with Jovanna. There is not much space and Troy is the name on the site so that why they put just Troy on there.
ReplyDeleteI love the design.
ReplyDeleteAlso, this morning I drove from St. Louis, MO, to Saint Paul, MN. I was in St. Louis for a missions trip and I've fallen in love with the city. can't wait to go back. It's beautiful.
Also, a kid in my youth group called drums a slacker instrument, so make the snake really hard.
ReplyDeleteWe need to drum up more interest for this poor blog somehow...
ReplyDeleteLook at how the number of posts become less and less as the months go on. :(
Yes, we do. Blackmail, perhaps?
ReplyDeleteThat may be an effective route. But we must look at all possibilities.
ReplyDeleteKristen and I are here in Nashville for mission week, we will see if we can get people to get on here!!!
ReplyDeleteRegarding the t-shirt logo. The main part, drum & drummers going around will be the same for each year. This year it's St Louis/IL Metro site doing the planning and the concert is actually in the city of Troy IL. St Louis is known for the Gateway Arch - therefore the arch. Next year the arch goes away and another site's name and "location" will be included in the original design.
ReplyDeleteI really hope people will Take a Chance and Do Whatever It Takes to come to St. Louis this year. There is still plenty of options to keep costs down (camping & host housing). We're proud to be planning and next year it will be easy ...all ideas & what works & doesn't work will be improved over this year. So, please sign up and work out the HOW later. Deadlines for t-shirts are fast approaching and we are working on those final plans.
I've officially signed up for the weekend. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't know who all had a hand in the planning, but I'm sure it was a great number of people - so thank you, all. This will be a summer to remember. :)
Jovanna- Me too! I'm so excited. GREAT JOB to everyone who made this happen.
ReplyDeleteI wish i could go to to St. Lois!!! I want that design on a shirt!! I don't care if I go or not i want one of those shirts!!!!
ReplyDeleteSRdrummer4life--I totally agree..that is an awesome design!
ReplyDeleteSonja/Jovanna--I agree with you guys as well: there must be a way to get more people onto the blog (possibly even blackmail :) ). i myself haven't posted in a long time, because of everything going on, but then i think of one of steve's earlier posts on how we need to sometimes stop---take a deep breath---and enjoy the moment.
blackmail
ReplyDeletepromise of candy
poison
guaranteed poll on what color Steve should dye his hair once we get EVERYONE on here at least once...
the list could go on forever, guys. There's a world of possibilities.
Man... I haven't been in here for a longgg time >_< man...BUT! IF STEVE DYED HIS HAIR NEON GREEN THAT WOULD TOTALLY MAKE MY DAY!!!!! more like Year! :D just saying. ;) Or like Teal?!?! ^.^ I dont know. :D
ReplyDeleteI think I am going to the SR Sizzlin Summer Drummer Bash...? I don't know if our Site Cord. signed us up.. I think she did though. I hope so! I Want to go sooo bad!
Infrared streaked with NEON GREEN!!
ReplyDeleteOh, gosh, Steve would hate us!!
hahaha :D that would look Awesome!!! Good Idea! :D lol
ReplyDeleteand yes...maybe a little..
What else could we do..hmmmm
whooa! am I confused! I guess that's what I get from being at camps for 2 weeks. I like that design, espeically with the arch in there, nice. Who came up with it? Is it just going to be red??? I probably should work on if I had you, thats super hard, but Super fun!!
ReplyDeleteI like the hair dye idea.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should dye his hair if he doesn't post on the blog for X number of days...
ReplyDeleteI agree Jovanna. :)
ReplyDeleteAutumn- How was your 2 weeks of camp!? ^.^ I never went camping before...I want to soooooo bad. Mom doesn't like it, so we don't do it. I will go sometime.I hope.. I just went Hiking for the first time ever like last sunday!! :D It was fun!! I fell a lot...My legs are all scratched up and I got a bunch of bruises. but it was amazing! ^.^
I like that idea, Jovanna!
ReplyDeleteGiven that I am freshly highlighted blonde, I will have to say NO to the neon green hair...not sure what my church shows would be like...that may be a bit too scary for most :) HA!
ReplyDeleteI think for getting more of SR on here we just need to keep at it..I will say that I enjoy each time I get on here and read through what everyone said...to whatever my last post was :) So, we shall just march forward and never give up!
