SR Uber Wootin' Writers Blog #6 -Colleen-

Okay so i guess that Steve was supposed to put up a post today but didn't so....im going to put my post up today. :)

Okay so everyone knows in high you have to take some kind of "Own Your Own" or "Home Ec." class. Well for my class this year we started talking about communication and how it effects the way people interpret the way we feel. Now when you look at someone have you ever noticed that they dont look at you when you talk? it happens to me all the time. Have you ever had that one person who just does not like you even though you have never had a conversation with them?

They could be thinking these things cause of the way you look when you think about something really hard or because you have a different crowd of friends.

okay what i would like all of you to do is answer these questions: Do you feel that the communication in the world has gone downhill since our grandparents were born? If so what can SR do to try and improve the communication the world?

  2. OMG Colleen, that is my pet peeve - lack of communication. I even work for a telecommunications company (telephone company) and do you think communication is any better there?? Even with so many ways to communicate, people just don't take the time to get the message across. If anything, people are superficial and not many meaningful conversations take place. So, SR members could set an example at being good communicators and take the time to really listen to others and get to know them better.

  3. Hey, how are you?
    Good. You?
    Good.
    End of conversation.

    BIGGEST PET PEEVE EVER!

These days, people don't take the time to have an actual conversation. I don't know why. But I just hate these surface conversations that don't add up to anything.

  4. I agree with Jovanna. I mean even with texting and the technology we have no days it's like everyone just sticks to there kind of people or even to themselfs and they don't try to get to know people. I mean I used to do that alot. I use to do it alot. Just be like Hey whats up? and then the conversation kinda goes dead, but now thanks to SR I am more open and I will sometimes be the first to say hi to the "new kid" even with my own site it was like that.

  5. Brenda- me too!!! it seems like the world is changing way too much to be normal. Just like Steve said in the post that he put up ten minutes-ish ago the communication of the world is honestly going downhill.

Jovanna- I know people do that all the time when im at school. Because i dont have a cell phone i dont really talk to my friends other than on the house phone, they talk to me in school. But as i pass people they might stop me and say hi then just completely walk away from a conversation!! ugh it bugs me.

Amanda- It's good that you have opened up alot to us in SR. I meant, i can't imagine not talkin to you that would be horrible. but im glad we can talk :)

  6. Finally get to comment. Yes I think the communication in the world has gone downhill. It seems like no one cares about anyone else except themselves. Or they are to busy texting on their phone. But I guess I used to be the same way. I could never look in someones eyes and talk to them and have a long conversatuin. I never had enough confidence in myself.. I was always afraid to say what I felt. But I've changed so I'm happy. I like talking to people face to face because you can see how they react to what they are saying. :)

  7. Actually, I have to disagree a bit. Texting, email, Facebook, these things aren't all bad. I've become friends with a boy at my school I used to hate because of the conversations we had on Facebook. He's never around at school anymore, because he takes college classes, so if not for the internet we'd never get to talk. Same with my many amazing out-of-state friends.

I come from a very small, tight-knit school, so I've never really felt like people don't have conversations. We all just know each other and talk to each other whenever we have time. Even just a hello to a friend in the hallway can brighten up someones day. I don't know if other schools have it different, but I have no shortage of real conversations in my day. I guess it helps in a smaller school where we all know each other though.

  8. Okay, I have to say with the numberous emails coordinators send out every week, people still don't read them. WE, SR people, depend on these digital airways to communicate and send out info on where we need to be, etc. It's so frustrating to not get any answers or response back. But still, you get that one parent that needs to call you during practice time or calls 15 mintues before a show. Then gets mad when you can't hear it ring to answer right away.

Yes, I agree. I love the eye contact. You look into people's eyes and see them differently than if you are preoccupied in a text message or what's happening around you. Most of the time, if you are smiling and looking in their eyes, then they will smile back at you. And we all love those "smiles" that come back - if they don't at least you've tried to "communicate" with them.
