Summer Mega Event Coming Together!!

Start spreading the word...the Summer Mega Event is really starting to come together...make sure you have marked your calendars...Aug 6, 7, and 8th...and if you are unclear, this is simply Mt. Rushmore mega-event done without Mt. Rushmore...but WITH mission projects!  We have some really great folks in St. Louis and the IL side working on all the details...with awesome mission projects lining up for Aug 6th...where you will all be divided into teams of 10-15 drummers and parents...and with members you do NOT know so you can make even more new SR friends!  Then, on Saturday, we are going to shoot for SEVEN hours of practice...given that many have asked for a longer mega-practice...so we are going to do it!  Then, on Sunday we will do an ecumenical morning service in our host town (Troy, IL) followed by an all-community BBQ (YAY!), followed by our 1.5 hour concert...which will be an awesome end to an awesome weekend!

So, if you are still wondering about the weekend...time to mark it down and start making travel plans.  We have special rates on hotel rooms throughout the area for those who want to stay in a hotel...we have MUCHO host housing space if you want to save that cost...we have many people feeding us everyday, so no worries there, and we will drum so much your hands will bleed!  YAY!  (well, maybe not bleed!).

Start talking this up at your sites...start texting, emailing, and calling your SR friends, get the word out there...cause we want to do whatever it takes to have 100 or 150 or 200 drummers there this summer.  We know you all have a million plans in the summer of things to do, places to go, camps to attend, vacations to have, but squeeze this one in too...so our first mega Summer event can be a true success!

We have almost finished the official name of the event...it will be finalized with the help of the OH members today and tomorrow...and then, we will open up T Shirt orders, since we are going to commemorate this one with an official summer T shirt.  For sure we are calling it Gateways of Change in memory of the STL area...but we are still needing the other part of the title...something along the lines of Sheltered Reality Drums O Fire or something like that...to bring together SR, summer, and drums...we will figure it out and get this posted ASAP.

SOOOOO...be excited!!

Colleen- Yeah, I feel bad asking my dad to take me to Mount Rushmore AND St. Louis in one year... I should look for more work and start saving.

  12. Colleen- I think I'm gonna be doing a LOT of cat-sitting... You can get good money if you get enough clients. Right now I have two cat-sitting jobs. I paid for my laptop that way, and am going to be paying for a bow the same way. I hope you can figure out a way to go! I haven't seen you since MTR!

Anyways, I think my dad secretly wants to go, so my parents will probably say yes!

  16. Autumn- We branded the 28,29,and 30th. We moved some cows to a lease pasture, with my dad's truck and trailer on the 28 and 31st. Yep tons of fun! We also now have 17 bum lambs, 5 bum goats, and 2 bum calves! They keep us VERY busy. lolz

  17. Elizabeth- I know! But I think its wierd that we are talking about farming on Steve's SR blog. :D Talk about busy! Either we're moving them, or they get out! Sure..we'll go with tons of fun. Haha but sometimes they are!

  18. Annette from St. Louis Site - Okay drummers, please talk up the SR Sizzlin Summer Drummer Bash weekend in St Louis. We have been working hard and finding ways so people can come. We have hotel rates, camping, and host housing. We have churches ready to feed us dinner on Friday & Saturday. We've met some awesome people along the way helping us to succeed.

I truly believe that God has His Hand in making this happen. It's so much BIGGER than you think. Friday's missions - 100 plus drummers & family members ALL doing GOOD in ONE Day - WOW! So be willing to do whatever it takes and believe. I know you will do your best to make it to St Louis/Illinois this summer. We want to make the first one a HUGE SUCCESS but only with your help can we succeed.

  19. I want to give a BIG thanks to the Des Moines site & SR! Wyatt has learned so much from you guys and his passion for drumming continues to deepen everyday. Even when it may seem he is not paying attention, even at 5, he is learning so much from all of you. We spent the weekend at Jiggle Jam in Kansas City (think Lollapalooza for kids). Wyatt spent most of his time at the "Garage Band" workshop, drumming for crowds of people. Everyone asks how he learned and he causually says, "I'm in a band....Sheltered Reality." The link shows just a few seconds of his performance. Thanks again to the Des Moines group for always including him and embracing his 5 yr old short attention span!

This would be a great venue for SR to play at sometime. Its a 2 day festival every Memorial Day weekend.

  20. Jess Ledinsky- Wyatt did really good!! I watched some of your other videos of him playing and he is really good...and so adorable. He just looks like he is having the time of his life :) you can tell him that Colleen is proud of him. He may not know who i am but thats okay :)

  21. Thanks Colleen. He is having the time of his life. So excited about drumming to absolutely anything.

  22. Your welcome Jess. I know that I have an amazing time being a part of SR I can't imagine how amazing it must be for a five year old boy without a care in the world :)

  23. Jess- I can only wish that I had discovered SR so early in life. What an amazing thing to grow up with.

  24. Hey everyone!!! I guess i'm suppose to tell you from steve that I had just finsihed practice learning most of if i had you, MAN! That is HARD!!!! But, the good thing is that he didn't see me use my left hand when i wasn't suppose to so our site leader's arms didn't come off. So i had to never give up and take a chance, do whatever it takes and believe in myself. (like how I worked that in :D) And that he will update this around Thursday, so hopefully he will. Yupp, well thats about it. Have fun Blogging, bloggers!!!

  25. Autumn- YAYY!!!!!!!!!! What do you think of it?!?!?! :D I love that song so far!! I can't wait to learn all of it! After we had practice with him, the next day I practiced this one part for 4 hours outside... kind of got sun burn on my arms but thats ok! ha I probably drove the people next door crazy... well the one enjoys it but yeah. :) and I like how you did the Steps of Success in one sentence!! Good job!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  26. Autumn- Congrats!!! i haven't learned all the song yet because the last two practices we had with him i had to leave while he was teaching it. so i have to catch up with some stuff on that (:

    ReplyDelete
  27. Colleen- I can help! Call me up if you want. :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. I haven't learned any of it yet. :(

  29. Jovanna-really? man, when you do I think you will like it! Somethings are pretty challenging. But, its all fun! :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Dee-haha thanks! I love it too! I still can't do the gallop and play the beat so I'll work on that...but not for 4 hours! We had to cram it all in 3 and a half hours!!! Ohh, and thank you!!
Colleen-Thanks!!! Oh, that stinks, alot of people missed our practice to because of softball&baseball games, so we'll have to teach them. Help!!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  31. Dee- okay i will (: oh yea i also have a tory to tell you about Tuesday when you missed practice....
Autumn- Your welcome. (: yea i had a funeral the first time and the second time i had to sing at the graduation...it was boring but oh well haha (:

    ReplyDelete
  32. Autumn- You'll get it! Never give up! Yeah that was the other part that I couldn't get. But I have it now. That part I practice for 2 hours. lol :D but on a different day.

Colleen-ha should I be scared to here this story?? I was bummed that I missed practice... my aunt love to go to Kennywood and she asked me and jen to go along with them so we did. It was fun. My mom came and my grandma. I had a blast spending time with my cousin. :) But it felt weird not going to practice.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Dee- maybe...well i am glad to hear that you had fun at Kennywood (: I don't see my cousins very often either so yea, i know how that is.

  34. Jovanna- Me neither. The last few weeks have been crazy, since I've been trying to finish all of my projects. Not to mention studying for the ACT (for those who don't know, the ACT is a big annoying standardized test that some colleges use to accept or reject students), so drumming has fallen to the wayside. I guess I'll d extra tomorrow.
