Happy Spring!!

Well, the first day of spring in Iowa and Illinois was grand...it snowed all day.  And, I got to drive in it, again.  As did everyone who joined me at the IASCOE conference show in Moline yesterday.  What a way to begin spring...and to think that I felt safe that driving in snow was over for me this year.  Oh well...such is winter...I guess :(  I am still sick (as is Kelli)...I am through one entire set of antibiotics, and now, 2 days out of them, I am getting it all back again...so tomorrow it is back to the doctor for something stronger this time...maybe I will have it finally gone by Easter...so it can be cold, and I can get sick all over again.  HAHA!  At least I am almost done with my sick season for 2010 (for those who don't know me well enough yet...I have said for years that from Jan through Mar I am sick over and over...so almost to the end of March...and almost safe!).  At least I have had plenty of you who are sick during this time as well and we can all commiserate together...which is good!

Anyhow I wanted to share the show from yesterday for all who could not be there.  It was our 2nd time doing a show for folks that are part of Kathy Post's real life world (an adult drummer from Union/Washington, MO)...she works with this group in MO...and the folks she works with deal with farmers at the county level helping them with all things financial related to their business.  We first performed for them in Hannibal, MO last fall and the show was very well received.  Moline was some of the same folks, but many new faces, and the show went even better.  I did part of Kelli's story since she was at this show...and some of the audience members had heard her story in Hannibal; this time they got to review her story AND meet her in person which was great.  However, I also did part of the Faith, SD story because I knew this audience would truly understand it...and the difficulties of being a farm-based town in today's world...and the story went over VERY well.  Money was donated to the ever-growing Faith, SD drum fund (YAY for you guys!)...and more importantly, we set the ball rolling for doing more shows with this group in the future (another regional event scheduled in Indianapolis in April, and maybe even the National Conference this summer if we can make it fit our schedule)...regardless...it was wonderful to share drums to change the world with people who spend all of their time working with agricultural issues...two worlds that seem not to fit together...but once again, God allows a musical connection to be made...tears of joy for kids united to change the world flowed freely again this time, and afterwards, I had several conversations about how we MUST keep doing SR because we MUST keep helping kids stay on a positive course in their lives, show them that hard work needs to be done for all things in life, and most importantly, we need to keep sharing God's love for us all through all means possible...even the very loud ones.

Thanks to Kathy (SR Princess if you do not know her nickname!) for getting the ball rolling on this, and thanks to all in the ASCOE group for truly showing enthusiasm for SR and our musical mission in life!

Enjoy this one again...more traditional posts coming next week (as soon as I feel better and feel creative about writing that is!!)

  1. Steve- I agree with the whole sick from Jan-March. I am ALWAYS sick then. And when I get really sick...I'm sick FOREVER.

    So I have a story:
This past Friday night I was with my friend Becca, who was working on a language paper at our language teachers house. We got there at approximately 11:30 that night. At 2:30am she was about to pass out so our teacher told us to spend the night. Our teacher's daughter had a birthday party so there were about five 8 year-olds that were STILL awake at that time as well. So anyway we all went to bed and woke up on Saturday around 9ish. Her son had a preschool screening at 10 and they had to take all the girls home as well. So she took one of the girls home and her husband took 2 of them and 2 of them got picked up. Her husband was driving out to take one of them home in the country and he hit a patch of ice and spun into the ditch. The first thing that came out of his mouth was "oh my gosh, I just killed the principals daughter." But he didn't and they were both perfectly fine, just a few minor cuts and bruises. While this happened I was STILL at their house with the kids and we were all VERY shook up. God was definitely with the two of them in that incident!! When we left that afternoon there was snow on the ground. Mind you, we were wearing capris and flip flops because it was 70 the day before. What a HAPPY Spring...NOT :P

Sorry for that depressing story...I had to share how amazingly great our God truly is!!

  4. ARE YOU SERIOUS????? I don't even know what to say! Thank you just doesn't seem to cover it! Glory to God for His awesomeness! I can't even believe how HE is working in our lives and the lives of others.

I think it's interesting how God uses music to bring people together. Like you said, two worlds that don't seem to fit together. AMAZING!!!!

  5. Steve-I must say it took Alex and I all stinking day to figure out what the heck IASOCE stood for! We were looking at all the papers on the tables for clues and then Brenda finally told us as we were walking to your vehical, before we stood outside talking forever. And I must say on the note of spring it sure didn't feel like it yesterday, but today was really nice again!
Kristen-I'm glad everyone is okay! I was worried about doing that yesterday pulling in to where I was meeting up with Alex, but I luckaly got my car back under control.
Autumn-You are always welcome to head over this way :) lol. You will always have a place to stay over here too!

  8. Traditional? I thought that one of the requirements of being in SR was to think out of the box?

  11. Drew-Congrats on 7th! I know I told you on facebook last night but I wanted to say it again!
Heidi and Autumn-Thanks, I'm still sick but that is partly my fault. Steve and Brenda both "yelled" (it wasn't actualy yelled I just can't think of the word to use) for not wearing a coat as we were standing outside after the show in Moline on Sat. But, I also haven't had a chance to go to the Dr. yet. Pastor Wendi hasn't been on my case like she has been on Steve's though.

  12. I hope you guys get better soon Kelli and Steve!! ^_^
I went to my friends house for a bonfire and it was pretty chilly out but I figured I would be ok because I would be by a fire... I was wrong.. I was only sick for a doy though, so it wasn't that bad. Thank goodness.

I love Spring for many reasons..But one reason why is the sunsets are beautiful! In the summer they are too. I love sunsets they are the most prettiest thing I have ever seen. The Color and everything, even the clouds around it. I love taking pictures and I am very excited because... I just bought a new camera yesterday so now I can take a lot of pictures!!! Woot!! Im sooo excited!! :D

  16. Spring is amazing! I was ecstatic when I could go to school in just my sweater instead of a winter coat. Now it's cold in the mornings, though, so we still have to wear coats. But it's still nice to be able to stand outside without every inch of skin covered.

I hope you and Kelli feel better soon! Preferably before MTR!

Drew- Nice job at your state tourney!

  17. Steve it did not snow on Sunday, that is when it was semi warm and half of it melted away :D
Any ways I do love spring and not having to walk outside and freeze my feet off.

  18. Jenn- Yes I am serious! I have thanked God every day since then for letting them live!! Our town would have changed TREMENDOUSLY otherwise.

  19. Brenda-That's what I figured...
To all-thanks for the well wishes. We both still weren't doing the greatest as of last night. But if I remember right Steve said something about the doctor again soon.
Steve-They wanted to take me to Urgent Care for my knee last night, but I wouldn't let them. I could baraley walk after Megan and I got our equipment back to the hotel from the PLEX. I iced it last night and had my brace on today and iced it over lunch. I promised Darrin and Mary Ann I would go in if it got any worse. Specaily since this was my good knee!!!

  20. Kelli- oh wow! i hope your knee gets better! my mom works for the choripractic, and that happened something like that to my oldest brother (but it was in football!)
anyway hope your knee gets better! :D

  21. Dee- your camera was amazing!! :)

Kelli- i know how you feel with your knee, i had to have knee surgery 3 weeks before last MTR. it was hard handling the physical therapy and getting ready to go but i managed. If your knee is really swelling that bad you should definitely go to a doctor, i didn't and it resulted in my surgery.
