MEMBER Question 3: Jan 15 2010

What is your favorite current SR performance song and why?

Please keep this to the current performance songs, as I would like to see you all compare and contrast and talk about the songs as I plan to remove one or two at least in 2010 and build in some of the happening new songs we are working on.  First, I want to know what the songs MEAN to you and HOW they make you feel by seeing what you all talk about with this question.

  2. Thats a toss up between Surrendar and Run it back. Both have great messages behind them and I appreciate both of the messages.

Run it back...well just take a minute and read the lyrics outside of SR. It talks about basicly changing all bad things you have been and changing that too good things. Which is a great message to give out to everyone. Also if you dont succeed at first well just "Run It Back and hit rewind" and try again. It's like that old saying "Try, Try again...If at first you dont succeed." It totally has SR's message alll over it!!! :)

Surrendar...I get from it that when im having issues.I just have to surredar and go to god and let him make his own plans for you.

  3. Surrender! It has such a great message to it "I raise my hands and I surrender" its like opening up to God and letting him in. it also says "I never thought that i would need someone this way" and God is that I need the most in my life!

  4. Amanda it really is scary how much we are alike! I was going tovpick those two as well. Run it back makes me look back at my past, I know I have messed up majorly so many times and yet I have to let it pass and forgive myself and others who have hurt me. And it reminds me to keep going and to keep trying.
Surrender, like Tonia says, does make me think of opeaning my heart to God and really paying attention to what he wants me to hear everyday. I have started using this song to start my daily bible readings to help me focous on God.

  5. Yay! I get to comment one! My first comment on here! Wooh! Umm...I know this sounds repetitive, but I think Run It Back Again has a great message. Like Kelli and Amanda said, it tells of knowing that mistakes are not set in stone. You have the ability to start again and keep trying until you do succeed. NEVER GIVE UP!
And of course the second one would be Surrender because it involves opening up to God. He created us and we should be looking up to Him always. If we ever feel lost, we have to surrender to let God lead us into the right path. It is easy for us all to go astray from God's word, but that is why we need to surrender to God so He can set us right again. Like I said, repetitive, but sometimes things are better told from everybody's perspective.

  7. Well i agree with Kelli, Amanda, and Alex. lol Run it back again is one of my favorites. I think it has an awesome meaning. No bodys perfect, and everyone makes. "A winner is one who accepts his failures and mistakes, picks up the pieces, and continues striving to reach his goals. " "Yesterday's the past, tomorrow's the future, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present." :)

I also love playing Everdream. That so is so much fun and it has awesome meanings!:D so i agree with ben on that 1.

  9. Steve, you ask the impossible!!! How can I pick just one of my favorite songs??! Urgh, I don't even want to pick because I love so many of them. I'll choose two, then: Everdream and Eho. Everdream is (I feel) one of our most powerful songs. You just feel... good when you play it. And yes, I think when we get the head turning right, the audience must just love it.

And Eho.. We haven't done that one for a while, but I am determined that we don't leave it behind this year. It's always been one of my favorites simply because of the drum sharing. Also, it's Greek. I just don't know how to describe it, but I absolutely love preforming it.

Okay, I can't do this. I need to choose one more favorite! The PIRATE SONG!!

  10. I completely agree with you Jovanna... Everdream has an amazing message, you know know that i think about it i am really quite terrible at that song and i have been practicing it alot though...never give up right :)

Eho, when i first learned the song i wpould always get so agrivated because i could never play it... and as it just happened steve didnt play it very much at shows and whatnot so i would practice.. i think that the snake part is a good part in the song cuz you share your drums, its like your opening up to the drummer next to you as well as God.

i also love Surrender it has an amazing message. i love watching the audience stand up and even watch some of them sing the lyrics... it always makes me feel good :)

  11. I haven't played most of the songs yet, but I really like Surrender. I sing it at school all the time. It reminds me that God is there and I can just open up to him and trust him. When your school is fraught with drama and your friends are all busy fighting with each other, it's a good thing to think about.

  12. Jovanna and Dee,

In terms of sharing, when you see my now nearly completed NEW sharing song, you will never worry about Eho again (though it is a great song)...but I have been really working on the middle drum sharing solo for this song...and, well, OK, I have impressed myself ! HA!

  13. I like Cuba Libre because I finally figured out the fills. I like Greased Lightning because it is a fun song. I wished we played it more. I do not care for Everdream because I can't hear anything but a monitone screaming. You can't understand any lyrics with the drums going.

  14. Sonja, i know how you feel with the whole friends eating each others throats out...i just got done with that one. but the song really is a good one :)

  15. Colleen- I'm getting the feeling that another friend blow-up is on its way... Good thing I have SR practice to look forwards to this week!

  16. Surrender will always be one of my favorites. Heard the first time I saw SR and it was something that I needed to hear.

  17. Sonja-yea i now how that is... its best just to stay out of it unless you really have to be in the whole drama activity :) i kearned my lesson the hard way lol

Angie-surrender has an amazing message an i think that everyone should here it at least once :)

  18. How about that! This is not as controversial a question as I would have thought. I have two favorites and a fast emerging third (once we get it down, it will move up). For message, I agree that Surrender is very powerful. It is also very visual, and you have to love the wicked moving cowbell part. For sheer fun-to-play, while also having a very relatable positive, consistent-with-steps-to-success message, I give it to Run it Back Again. It has a lot of variety in the beats and rhythms, fun choreography, and has great WOW-factor when everyone hits it together. And, Pirates (Wolves of the Sea) is going to be awesome, and the most fun (so far) once we get it down.

  19. Tom- i agree one hundred percent with all your choices :) the pirate song is going to be sweet when we play it for the first time in a show :)

  20. Sarah-I have a couple favorite songs. My favorite song with meaning would have to be What Hurts the Most. It is one of my fave songs to drum to and to listen to. The words in the song are amazing and it helped me through a really hard time in my life!

My favorite drumming skills song is Everdream even though I lose my glasses every time at the end I always feel really happy and pumped after we are done playing it! I also love to watch the audience as well as the other drumers having a blast too!

Louise-My favorite performing song is Chariots of Fire. I enjoy the dancing but I really enjoy when the audience gets involved and dance along with us. But of course Cuba Libra will always be my all time favorite (PLEASE KEEP IN SHOWS)!

  21. My favorite song is Greased Lightning. I can't believe no one else has said that yet. I guess that tells you how old I am. I like this song because this was one of my favorites movies growing up, but mostly because it is just fun and challenging. I still haven't got that stick twirl down and am still working on the really fast bell part. The choreography is fun and I love how the audience really gets into the song when we play it. We need more fun in the world! My second fav is Surrender because of it's message. I sometimes get lost in the message and worship as I play. That's cool! My least fav is one of the most populare according to this blog-----Everdream. I'm just not that comfortable with it overall. Not my style of music and my 40 something neck is sore for a day or two after we perform it at a show. I do appreciate the effect it can have on the audience if we all play it well and do the choreography in-sinc.

  22. Steve, just a FYI: finding it difficult to find time to do this blog-thing. First time I've been here since Christmas break. Just don't have time to sit down and do it. It is not just a 5 minute thing. Just letting you know I am trying.

  23. Hmm that's a tough one Steve. I would probably have to say Surrender. Just because the song has such a great meaning. Plus it is alos a great way to show the audience what SR is all about!

  24. Surrender is my favorite song to watch. I can always catch Christina's eye and we lip sync it together. Surrender speaks to my heart and brings my faith bubbling up to the surface.
