It all looks the same

Well, after having traveled over 2000 miles in the last 6 days (and that is NOT an exaggeration.  Yesterday we drove for a solid 13 hours) I am finally back online...and have realized one thing.  IT ALL LOOKS THE SAME OUT THERE.  Everywhere I have looked, no matter what state, it is all WHITE.  ALL SNOW.  And, too much of it.  We need to do a special SPRING dance soon...period.  We need it.

Off to a school show very soon, so today, I am going to post a new REAL question for you all to think about...and then, I will catch back up on all the other things we are working on (the chain story, the questions for me, etc...)...as well as figuring out the Member of the Week problem.  I think I know what to do with it, so will shoot for that tomorrow when I have all morning free.

With that said...my question is...

If you ARE going to MTR this year, what are your three PERSONAL goals or hopes or whatever word you want for MTR this year?

If you are NOT going, but want to write what you would want for another member to experience this year, what would that be?

There ya go...talk about this one (which will help me set some new goals for practice this year, in addition to the SURPRISE after practice event that is on your horizon)...

  17. I don't know for sure yet if I am going to MTR or not. In order to go, I either need to get a ride or learn to drive on the freeway. I almost drove off the entrance ramp last week, so... I might be needing a ride.

If I go, my goals are:
    1. Get over my shyness long enough to get to know both my site and other sites better.
    2. Meet in person the people I have met on here.
    3. Have fun! ( I can't think of a third one...)

  18. Sonja- yea, i know what you mean, i get so nervous all the time, i don't even know why. Especially before shows!!!!!

    ReplyDelete

    1. Meet everyone who's been posting on here and make long lasting bonds with those I don't know as well.

    2. Survive the early morning/pray it's not as cold as last year.

    3. For everyone - I hope everyone will put some serious practice into the Pirate song so that we can blow the audience away together. All of us. From different sites. Suddenly breaking out into swordfights! Ahhh, it would be soooo cool! :)

    ReplyDelete

    Autum and Drew-Yes, very exciting!
Amanda-I never really thought about us calling eachother sisters on here and other people getting confused! Good call!

  33. Hey All!!

Great comments, one and all!! I am very proud of all the great thoughts/goals on here...including not only things about meeting new friends, many each other from the blog, etc...all good things of course! But, including things like getting over shyness, learning to drive on the interstate (Sonya, TAKE A CHANCE! HA!!)...and what songs you are excited about, etc...very good reading.

I agree with Drew...this makes my day, everyday we get to do it too!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Autumn-I would love to help you!
    Sonja-Sorry that plan didn't work out...I tried:(
I also agree with Steve and Drew it does make my day to read these. Also I love talking to all of you on facebook! Thanks Elizabeth you have been amazing the past couple days and have really helped me out!
Dee-I think I am taking you know what, you know where when I get back into town on Tuesday!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Autum surrender is not that hard and I am sure you will pick it up fast. all I have to learn of that song is the surrender beat. Autum one thing you could do to practice is what we do in faith you could but a bucket (5 gallen perferable) on a folding chair and use that we use it and it works well for us. To tell the truth they dont sound that bad from a distance but one hint if you think you are sounding terrible when you are playing on them don't get angry it just sounds bad up close

    ReplyDelete
  36. Kelli- It's all right. I guess I'll have to keep at it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I am just a parent but would like to comment on the MR question-I want to again experience that SR feeling of being a part of a huge group of friends, whether you know everyone or just a few, working together toward a common goal and being with my family on Easter in such a beautiful place as Mt. Rushmore.
And Steve-I know what you mean by everything is WHITE! I've been delivering mail the last couple days and my eyes are wacky-times can't tell if on the gravel or the ditch.

    ReplyDelete
  38. yay!!! I cant wait to see everyone!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm going to MTR for the first time this year (i'm really excited!) my goals are:
    1. meet everyone here on this blog
    2. learn as many songs as possible before MTR (especially the Pirate Song)
    3. Have an awesome time @ MTR (can't think of a third thing right now either)

    ReplyDelete
  40. I am planning on MTR this year and am looking forward to it. My hopes are:
    1. That SR has it best turnout ever in terms of the number of drummers. This will make the message that much more powerful and impactful.
    2. That every member realizes the power of the national organization and, if they do not already realize it, have an epiphany about what it REALLY means to belong. We are not 38+ groups, but ONE!
    3. That everyone connects and comes away with at least one new friend-for-life.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Tom, those are some great goals for MTR.

    ReplyDelete
  42. i am planning on mtr... the cold weather.. all the tree's.. waking up at 4am.. or wait.. their will be no sleep that night. lol(coughamandacough)
    1. plan to meet new friends.exchange some numbers. get to know a little more about everyone.
    2. just have fun.. enjoy every momment of being with everyone.
    3. learn something new? dont know what. but it will come. trust me..

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm sooo excited to go to MTR...not too excited about the cold and the 4 am but it's all part of the experience. I'm really looking forward to our site meeting the rest of the nation! The Rapid City group has been so good to us and has really taken us in. It will be aweswome for our site to feel the power of SR when all the sites come together. (chills)

Along with everyone, my 1st goal is to meet new people and give everyone some big hugs and thanks for supporting us.

I'm kind of anxious about all the songs that I/we don't know yet. So, making sure my mind and body are ready for the massive intake of new material is my second goal.

My third goal is to bask in the overwhelming power, love and unity that is contained in this group we call Sheltered Reality. Not just for myself, but that it may become a part of me that I can share the same sense of belonging with others!

Elijah says that his goals are:
    1. I want to see MTR.
    2. I hope I do good.
    3. I hope I get to meet new friends.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Autumn- anytime :) yea it should be posted on youtube...this might confuce you but i learned the surrender beat in 3 parts...the first part has 7 beats, the second part has 5 beats and the third part has 4 beats. i really hope that i didnt just confuse you. im sorry if i did :)

  54. Not sure if Rachel and I will be able to make it to MTR this year or not. We really want to by not sure if we can swing it. So here are my goals:
    1. To empower others (drummers and parents) to step up to become leaders at our site.
    2. To be a role model for the other members at our site by showing the steps of success in the things that I do myself.
    3. To become a better drummer.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Dee- oay thank you :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Dee and Colleen- I <3 you both!
    Colleen-Has Dee finally told you?!?!

Karen-I hope you guys get to go! I miss you so much! I guess if you don't I will just have to make another Nebraska trip!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I can tell you that it was an awesome experience for all. We went in 2007 - 120 drummers, 2nd year of SR playing at MTR, 7 degrees, setting up drums in the dark. When the service started the sun came out and began to shine on the monument above the open stage. We heard the story of how the Rapid City parents of Sr cleaned off the walkways and seats so they would be able to have the service. Ice and snow fell a few days before. I was wondering if anyone would come, ice/snow and 7 degrees. To my surprise the paper said there were over 3,000 people who came. Then I knew why we all came together - to praise our risen Lord in a unique way with songs from a community choir, scripture, and SR stories and songs. So different and so inspiring. Nothing like it will you ever experience. We could have been on spring break somewhere warm and sunny but chose to drive 14 hours one way to be there. We shared our room with another drummer and spent time with other SR parents and drummers. I have lots of fun pictures from that weekend. We will always remember that Easter Sunrise Service for many years to come - from Annette - St Louis SR
