MEMBER Question 5: Feb 12th, 2010

Instead of cleaning things up today, I will once again apologize and say...I have to head out of the door of the motel in less than 20 min, and so, will spend time on MONDAY cleaning things up...have an entire day free before practice that day to clean up all the little things we started this week...and cross your fingers then...perhaps we will finally learn all about Kelli that day from her Member of the Week questions.

Instead of that, since you had SO much fun yesterday with the question...here is a real SR one...we have not done a specific one lately, and I will be very curious to see what you have to say about this...

What is the ONE SR drum part, ONE SR song, and/or ONE SR choreographic move that you feel that you have NOT succeeded at the most...meaning which ONE thing (and you can only pick ONE thing from this list...either a drum part, a song, or a move) that you feel the least successful at, but want to succeed at finally?

Once you see everyone's choice...then I want you to talk about these with each other...if you see something that one of you wants to succeed at, and you have already succeeded at it...then tell how you did this!!

I will be excited to see what you all want to conquer the most...and see how you advise each other.

To TOM specifically...we have finally figured out the internet way for you to be able to advise on all such drum things for all sites...news on that when we see you Monday.  AND to all...watch for a new FACEBOOK site to be coming for SR members only that will be ALL about in-between practice, how to make it more successful...and will eventually include all the videos we can stuff up there with SR songs/parts!!  We are excited to have figured out that may be the way to go!!

  1. First of all i'm the first one to comment! YES!! Of course my song is surrender, since i have never been taught....especailly the coregraphy and that one really hard-looking beat.

  2. for me i guess the only song i havn't mastered yet is Wolves of the Sea cuz i was gone for basic training when my site started to learn it. now our site is moving on to the M and K beat and YMCA i havnt really had the chance to get the song down. and now it looks like this Tick Tock beat looks like it'll take me a while to master but through the steps of success i will succeed!

  3. Hmm.. well..ok The song That's just the way we roll, the Accent part... I can't do that with my right hand for the life of me. I can do it with my left though.(my dominant hand is left) But I practice it a lot and I still don't have it but im getting there :)

  5. LoL I don't really know. We don't play it much either. But i was listening to the show songs on my phone and that came on and I was like ok. That works lol. :)

  6. Yeah... I haven't really mastered any songs yet, since I haven't been here very long. I guess the part I feel least confident in (because I can't follow the people next to me) would be the head turns (In Everdream, I think) or the Octopus beat in Surrender. I can't follow others because it's too fast and pretty complicated looking.

  7. That'sjust the way we roll. Period. I can't do that song.

  8. I would have to agree with "That's Just the Way We Roll." I only ever learned a little part of it. I think that is the hardest song to pick up with the way I learn, even though Alex is an amazing teacher (or I should say was before he left us.:])!

  10. I'd have to say the surrender beat. We haven't really gone over it yet in practice a whole lot, and whenever I see it, all I see right now is a blur...i'm excited to work on it, though!

  11. I know "That's Just the Way We Roll." pretty well. The hardest song for me is Everdream cause i have never really been taught it so everything i do in that song i have basicly caught on to or taught myself how to do it to the point that no one realizes im doin it wrong.

  12. hummm Axel F because I am pretty sure I haven't played it more than 10 times and the ending is way to confusing for me to catch on to! Then the song has to have no actual word so I cant even use that to help me!! I am so glad we pretty much never play this song!

  13. For me it is the Surrender beat. Had it taught many times, but still just can't seem to get it out of super slow motion. Mary Jo probably had the best explanation of it, but it is just one of those never give up things for me. I get embarrassed when practicing it because I don't get it as well as Rachel or others around me and just end up frustrated with myself.

  14. Drew- Yes! i feel better since i'm not the only one who can't play that!!! :)

  15. Still working up to song speed on Wolves of the Sea. Know all the parts, just a matter of playing it crazy fast without looking spastic, or as Jordan noticed at a recent practice when we were demonstrating "Run it Back Again", "drum parts were good, but you looked so serious and intent on getting it right, that it did not look like you were having fun with it".

  16. Looking forward to hearing how to best offer advice. Can't wait to help (can you say Surrender?)

  17. Just had to share! At practice today I asked everyone today's blog question about what part they found most challenging . Kim was leading practice today (and she did great btw)and so we worked on Surrender for me. I CAN ACTUALLY PLAY IT NOW!!!!!! I'm so excited!!!! It's still only about half the speed of what it needs to be for the song, but at least I have started to get it!!! :) Thank you Kim and Rachel for all the very patient help!!!

  33. Sonya and Kristen,

You have both succeeded at more than you think! You both made me laugh with these comments. To ALL...thanks for doing this...as we are working on new ways that all of you can help each other succeed...including posting videos of YOU reteaching things that are hard for all...in your own way. This helped me a LOT today...thanks for working hard on it!!

  34. You know Steve, my name is actually spelled with a j, not a y. People always spell it Sonya though, so I'm used to it. :)

    Just thought I'd mention it.

Is the other Sonya with a y?
